Many of the people we talk to at some point in their career have been afraid of failure. Our guest today is addicted to success. Joel Brown created a personal blog while he was still in his 9-to-5 grind to bookmark some of the web’s most inspiring articles out. Today, his blog has evolved into massive business success. Today, Addicted2Success.com is the #1 Motivation and Inspiration web site yielding over 3.5 million hits per month with a passive income supporting Joel’s recent leap out of corporate sales.
In today’s episode, Joel talks to Phil and me about how he learned the art of platform-making early on in life. Why connecting to and helping people have played an integral role in transitioning him from a successful career in music production to a lucrative corporate sales career and now a budding, professional speaking brand empowering and inspiring people all over the world.

Defining Shut Up Moment:
I always had a pretty strong love for music since I was about 13. I was into beat-making, production and DJ’ing. I used to network with radio shows locally and I kept nagging them until finally I was asked to help produce one of the shows. I stayed persistent and supplied them with as much exclusive content as I could. It got to the point where I was doing mixes and contacting artists around the world and they were really receptive to it. I lined up a lot of interviews and made traction.
When I was about 15, I ended up getting my own radio show. I learned the art of platform-making. My friend whom I had produced and worked with is one of the best DJ’s in Australia and a DMC battle champion. I pitched his music and it landed in the hands of Jim Jonsin who is a Grammy Award winning multi-platinum producer who has worked with Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Lollipop, and T.I. We made it out to Miami and I got to work with a lot of successful musicians. I learned a lot about applying yourself and swallowing the fear and just going for it. Talking to people who were 30 and 40 when I was just this young buck half their age; if you can prove yourself, people will listen.
2.5 years traveling between Australia and America, I was meeting life and development coaches and my passion changed. I kind of sensed it. As a manager in the music industry, I felt I was limited in a way. I was putting so much into something I wasn’t 100% into anymore. Today, my friends are still in the studio every day with major label artists doing their thing. Over time I was more interested in doing my own thing so I decided to leave. You have to be passionate and happy about what you’re doing.
